Alba is Gaelic for Scotland, and Joe Doucet’s set is a letter to it: a crystalline bottle with a circular stopper that tilts in the conical neck, and two heavy-based glasses, each hand-engraved with a deconstructed tartan running through the base. The pattern is broken apart and re-set — a tradition handled by someone with no interest in copying it.

It is the most considerable object on the shelf and the most complete gift the house offers. Give it as it comes, or give it as we would: the set with a bottle of the Highland Legacy Malt beside it, so a Scotch ritual arrives whole — the tartan, the heavy base, the slow pour — with nothing in it that needs explaining away in the morning.
